1. Take breaks throughout the day

This one was a hard one for me to learn. Taking breaks throughout the day is one of the best ways for us working moms to take care of ourselves. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, stepping away from your work or parenting duties can allow us to relax and recharge. Breaks allow us to reconnect with ourselves and our values, while also helping to reduce stress and burnout.

2. Make time for yourself during the week

As a working mom, it can be hard to find time for yourself during the busy workweek. But as I have learned, it’s essential that you make time to do something that brings you joy. Unless that is, you want to feel burnt out and unhappy.

Whether it’s reading a book, taking a yoga class, or going for a walk, taking time to do something that you love can help us unwind and recharge.

3. Connect with other working moms

Being around other working moms can be one of the best forms of self-care. Having someone to relate to who understands your unique situation can help reduce stress levels and provide emotional support. Spending time with other moms can also help you stay motivated and inspired.

For us introverted moms, a zoom call or video chat can really do the trick.

4. Incorporate movement into your day

Incorporating movement into your day as a working mom isn’t always easy, especially when you feel you are already juggling a million tasks. But it is important for our mental and physical health to take time for ourselves and be active.

Movement can come in many forms, from going on a walk around the block or doing an online exercise class to participating in a virtual yoga class or playing a physical game with your kids.

Reading can be a great form of self-care for us, especially when it’s something inspiring and uplifting. Whether it’s an article, book, or blog post, taking the time to read something that motivates and encourages you can help you feel refreshed and motivated.

6. Prioritize healthy eating

Eating healthily is essential for working moms, as it provides the fuel we need to manage our daily tasks. When time is short, try to focus on foods that provide long-lasting energy like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Avoiding processed foods and added sugars can help give your body the nutrition it needs to stay energized throughout the day.

7. Get enough sleep

Ooh man, this is by far the biggest hurdle for me, so I get it. Sleep is essential for our mental and physical health, so make sure you’re getting enough shut-eye every night. Aim for seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night and stick to a consistent bedtime routine when possible.

8. Unplug from technology

As a working mom, it can be easy to constantly be on your phone and connected to technology. Whether it’s checking emails and responding to messages throughout the day or scrolling through social media, it can be hard for us to unplug from our devices. But giving yourself permission to unplug and disconnect from technology throughout the day can help you relax and recharge.

9. Take a nap

Taking a power nap during the day can make a huge difference in your energy levels when you’re a working mom. When you’re juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities, it can be difficult to find the time for a nap. But with careful planning and prioritization, you can set aside some time during your day to rest and recharge.

12. Pamper yourself

Taking a break to pamper yourself is one of the best ways to practice self-care as a working mom. After a long day or week of juggling multiple tasks and responsibilities, taking time for yourself can help you relax, recharge and reconnect with your own needs.

Whether it’s spending some time in a hot bubble bath or treating yourself to a mani-pedi, taking the time to pamper yourself can go a long way in helping you feel refreshed and recharged.

15. Spend time outdoors

Working moms often find themselves too busy to spend time outdoors, but taking a few moments each day to appreciate the beauty of the natural world can be incredibly grounding and nourishing for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. One way to make sure that you get outside each day is by setting a reminder on your phone or smart device. This will help to ensure that you make it a priority.

As a working mom, self-care is essential. Juggling our family and career responsibilities can be exhausting and stressful if we don’t take the time to practice self-care. With careful planning and prioritization, we can make sure that we’re taking the best care of ourselves and making sure that we have the energy to take on the day. From mindfulness and meditation to pampering ourselves, asking for help when we need it, and spending time outdoors – these simple practices have made a world of difference in my life. With self-care as an integral part of our routine, we can feel more energized and connected to ourselves than ever before!

So, working moms everywhere: it’s time to take care of yourselves! You deserve it.
